Frequently Asked Questions

Hello future Cyberhawks and Parents! There is no doubt that you have questions about the team; we hope the following information will provide the answers you seek!

FAQ

What is FIRST?

The acronym FIRST means For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology.  It is the organization under which we compete.

 What is FRC?

The FIRST organization supports three levels of competition.  We compete at the highest level - FRC (FIRST Robotics Competition) for ages 14-18.  Other levels include: FLL - FIRST Lego League (ages 4-16) and FTC - FIRST Tech Challenge (ages 12-18).

How can I get involved?

Reach out for Sponsorships or Sponsor us:

Help us promote what our team does and ask businesses and companies to sponsor us.  (They do not have to be tech companies.)

Mentoring:

If you have experience with engineering, mechanics, programming, business, or media, we’d love to have you as a mentor! Reach out to our email and we can get you in contact with a current mentor for more information.

Build Season Saturday Lunches:

We will contact you with how you can help with this!

What are competition requirements?

To be eligible to attend competitions your child should retain an attendance of at least 70% before and during the competition season. They must go to 2 outreach events, which will go on throughout the year, from clean-ups for FIRST Lego League to community involvement events.

Are there academic requirements?

To be eligible for the Cyberhawks, your child must not have 2 or more F’s in any classes. Otherwise, they will be suspended from the club until they are eligible.

Can my child switch subteams after joining?

Students may switch freely from one sub-team to another in order to find where they best fit on the team. In fact, many of our students are part of two or more subteams!

How much will robotics cost?

The only costs for robotics will come from any competitions and ordered t-shirts. This will cost between $100-$150 per student for travel and hotel fees. If you are struggling with financial hardship you can reach out and we will assess if it would be applicable to grant a scholarship to allow your child to go.
